As you all know Christmas is coming so the staff decided we should organise some fun activity to celebrate! Well this year we are going bowling on Tuesday 19th December, meet at the squadron for 1900 or go directly to Hollywood Bowl at Cribbs for 1910, remember to wear civvies! It will cost £3 for those of you lucky enough to be under 16 or £4 if you are over 16, this will get you two games.

Put your names up on the Activity Sheet at the Squadron. The more of you that attend the better it will be and it could even count towards the Flight Competition.

Rememberance Sunday

As you all know this Sunday (12/11/2006) is Rememberance Sunday. EVERYONE is expected to attend unless you have already made your apologies to the CO.

Details are as follows: -

Dress Wedgewood blue shirt and tie with jumpers. Band members should know what uniform you are expected to wear. Remember to wear a poppy on the LEFT hand side.
Meet at the squadron at 0945. You should know which parade you are attending already, if you do not know contact either the CO or the Adjutant NOW! If you are parading at Shirehampton and can make your own way there please do so and meet there for 1000.
Don't forget about the Festival of Rememberance in the evening either!

Thursday 9th November

This Thursday the dress for the evening will be Working Blues. You should also bring your Wedgewood Blue Shirt, tie and a shoe polishing kit with you to the Parade Night. We want you all to be really smart on Rememberance Sunday and the Staff are willing to help you achieve it so please make sure you remember to bring these items with you on Thursday!

Sunday (05/02/2006) our annual ATC Sunday parade. ALL of you should be attending. Band members should know what you are doing already, musicians and readers must meet at the church for 16:45 so that we can set up and practice. For the rest of you it is a 1800 meet at the Squadron.

Winter Wander

Expanding the Squadron Blog

Now that we have the Blog up and running an people are visiting it I thought that there is the potential to expand it. There are various things which can be added to the Blog, one example is the counter at the bottom. We could have a photo album, a guestbook or even an internet poll. We can make it so that you can send photos form you mobile phones to it as well. So let me know which if any of these addons you would like and I'll see what I can do.

Communications Badge

I have been asked by the Squadron Comms Officer to remind the Cadets about the Communications Badge. On the Squadron we use the radios regularly and for your classifications we are encouraging you to take the communications exams for your classifications. Why not combine these and qualify for your Communications Badge? This is an opportunity which is not taken advantage of by many cadets in the Corps and is therefore quite rare.

If you qualify for the Communications Badge you are only one exam and £3.50 away from a City and Guilds qualification which is a civilian qualification.

There is band at the Squadron, dress for the evening is blues.
Those going to 1860 wear greens and be at the Squadron for 1845, you should know who you are.

Saturday 5th November
Meet at 0730 at the Squadron, wearing greens. Remeber to take 3822 and packed luch (including drinks, hot drinks reccommended!)

Tuesday 8th November
The dress for the evening in Blues.

Thursday 10th November
The dress for the evening is blues. It is vital that band members attend (band members parading at Shirehampton on Sunday wear greens).

Friday 11th November
Final Band practice before Remeberance Sunday, dress for the evening is blues..

Saturday 12th November
AEF flying, wear blues and take your 3822. Meeting times etc to be comfirmed.

Sunday 13th November
Rememberance Sunday. All cadets should attend! Dress is wedgewood blues for the majority of cadets with Banner Party and band in No.1s. Meet at 0945 at the Squadron. If you are marching at Shirehampton and can make your own way meet there at 1000.

Sergeant Sam Tripp, a member of Bristol Air Cadet Force, had an eventful time when he was selected to represent Bristol East Avon Rotary Club on a Rotary Young Leaders course. He returned to the club on Thursday to give a talk to the Rotarians about the experience.The aim of the week was to develop the leadership potential of 30 16 to 18-years-olds who were recommended by local Rotary clubs.Sgt Tripp described the intensive programme, which focussed on building confidence and self-esteem through activities in which good communication skills and teamwork were vital.The activities included climbing and abseiling.Sam Tripp said: "My worst moment during the week was when I got stuck crawling along a narrow underground tunnel deep in a Mendip cave, as I have a six-foot frame."However, the instructors were on hand and quickly came to the rescue."Those who took part were given ample opportunity to put to practical use the skills acquired.Late one evening the group were informed that some children had been reported lost in the fog on the Mendip Hills.The participants quickly formed into groups and organised a structured search programme.After hours tramping through the night, they learnt that the information was incorrect, and it was a false alarm.Nevertheless, being able to put into operation such a well-planned procedure brought home to them the relevance of the course.Sgt Tripp said: "For a 17-year-old the whole experience was a valuable preparation for taking on further responsibilities in his future career."Another RYLA course is planned to take place at Charterhouse, Somerset from April 2-9, 2006.Any suitable candidates (male or female), from schools, Scouts, cadets or similar organisation, should contact Roger Ferguson, president of Bristol East Avon Rotary club for further details phone 0117 957 1240.
